The Sierra Leone Heavy Duty Machines Operators Union (SLHDMOU) has its roots in a movement that began in 2019 when operators first attempted to organize under a common structure to address poor working conditions and inadequate wages. Although the initial movement faced leadership challenges and eventually collapsed, it sparked a lasting awareness of the need for proper representation. In 2024, former executives and committed operators revived the movement with a renewed focus on transparency, accountability, and unity. Through collective effort, the union was restructured, leadership was reorganized, and a more disciplined framework was established. Today, SLHDMOU stands as a formal trade union dedicated to protecting the rights, welfare, and professional interests of heavy duty machine operators across Sierra Leone.
